
Bansko holiday ski resort is situated near Glazne river at the Northeastern bottom of the Pirin Mountains, 170 km South of Sofia and 60 km Southeast of Blagoevgrad. Bansko is one of the newest and biggest mountain resorts in Bulgaria with well developed skiing facilities - Doppelmayr ropeways, including an 8-passenger Gondola ropeway, 4-seater chairlifts, 2-seater chairlifts, T-bar lifts, platters. The skiing conditions for holiday in Bansko are excellent - the long ski season stretches from mid-December until mid-May with plenty of snow. The Pirin mountain has a predominately Alpine character with three peaks towering above 2900 m. The slopes offer 17 ski runs and tracks, from novice level to the expert and all are maintained in excellent condition. For snowboarders there are tree-lined runs and a new dedicated snowboarders area with a half-pipe facility 100 meters high by 17 meters wide.

There are approximately 15 000 hotel beds ready for 2007-2008 winter season in Bansko. This number will probably double when most of the new hotels and apartment buildings are completed. There are plenty of pubs, restaurants and night clubs in Bansko and all offer great value for money. A large beer of 500ml is less than £1, and a basic meal is approximately 2-3 £. Food varies from local traditional cuisine (kebapche, kyufte, tarator, shopska salad) to Greek and Mediterranean specialties, Italian cuisine. BANSKO ATTRACTIONS
Bansko is an enchanting historical spot attracting visitors by its 120 cultural monuments, museums and permanent ethnographic exhibitions. The Virgin Mary church built in 6th century and restored at the end of 8th century has wonderful woodcarvings of the iconostasis. The native house of Neofit Rilski - preserved in its initial outer appearance is situated in the immediate neighbourhood of the famous St. Trinity church. The Velyanova Kashta is a monument dating back from the Renaissance, one of the most beautiful houses having a rich fresco decoration and fine woodcarvings. The Sirleshtova Kashta (the House of Sirleshtov) is a small fortress. The special role of this house in Bansko is marked by the one-meter thick stone walls, the narrow and dark loop-holes, the iron wires on the windows and the heavy doors.

TRAVEL TO BANSKO - TRANSPORTATION
Regular bus service is operating between Sofia and Bansko during the day. Shuttle service and private transfers are also available at decent rates - as low as 12 EUR per person A private transfer between Sofia and Bansko takes between 2 to 3 hours, depending on the weather conditions.
