Hungarian budget carrier Wizz Air will operate two additional flights during the winter season of 2009, the company said in a statement. Wizz Air will fly from Varna to London/Luton every Tuesday and Saturday, taking off at 6pm Bulgarian time, starting September 19, 2009. The service will continue until May 2010, afterwards flights from Varna to Luton will be conducted only on Sunday, the company said. Flights originating from Luton to Varna will take off at 1pm GMT. The second flight will link Sofia to Eindhoven, every Wednesday and Sunday until May 2010, starting October 25. Flights from Sofia are scheduled at 5.20pm, returning from Eindhoven at 8.40 Bulgarian time. Wizz Air, EasyJet, Germanwings, Aer Lingus and Sky Europe served around 26.5 per cent of passengers carried through Sofia airport in the first half of 2009, according to Sofia Airport traffic data. The five low-cost airlines controlled about 20 per cent of the market in 2008 and 12 per cent in the first half of this year, with growth largely driven by new flights by Wizz Air and EasyJet. Wizz Air also operates from Bucharest to Catania, Naples and Bologna from September to handle passengers previously serviced by Italian May Air, which lost its licence in July 2009.
