  Vidin is lies on the southern bank of the Danube in the most northwestern corner of Bulgaria, 199 km northwest of Sofia, 52 km north of Belogradchik, 56 km northwest of Lom, and 30 km northeast of the Serbian border. The port town of Vidin is linked by a regular ferry service with the Romanian town of Calafat. Vidin is home to the area′s hottest tourist attraction – the impressive 13th century medieval fortress of Baba Vida on the Danube, and several interesting churches, basilicas, and mosques.
