Heraklion International Airport is the primary airport on the island of Crete and the busiest one as well, serving Heraklion, Aghios Nikolaos, Malia, Elounda and other resorts on the eastern side of the island. Officially known as Heraklion Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport, it is Crete’s main gateway to the world serving 5 million passengers a year flying to domestic and international destinations. It serves as a hub for Aegean Airways, Olympic Airways, Sky Express and a number of domestic and international charter flights to and from the other Greek islands, such as Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes and Paros. Heraklion International Airport (HER) is situated about 5 km east of the city center of Heraklion on the north side of Crete. Nikos Kazantzakis Airport is just off the E75 motorway and can also be easily reached via the main road Ikarou from the city center for about 10-15 minutes by a hire motorcycle, car or scooter. The largest Greek island of Crete is renowned for its natural beauty and diverse landscape and is an ideal motorcycle touring destination - where else in the world you can ride a hire motorcycle or scooter up snow-peaked mountains and steep gorges then swim in the warm Mediterranean sea all in one day's ride.
