Izmir is one of the most preferred travel destinations in Turkey with magnificent history. Called Smyrna in the ancient times Izmir is now a contemporary megapolis lying at the head of Izmir Gulf in the Aegean Sea. Many travellers visiting Izmir also visit Ephesus situated 70 kilometers to the South. Izmir is approximately 560 km Southeast of Istanbul and 800km to the Bulgaria border at Edirne. Izmir′s main airport is Adnan Menderes Airport located 19km South from the city center.
